My music magazine contains a front page, contents page and a double page spread. When creating my magazine I looked at many different music magazine so I could make sure it looked professional like current magazines which are sold. The colours which I have chosen were chosen carefully taking in to account the target audience which is 16-20 and males. I chose a colour palette that attracted males with black text but with a multicolour background, this will attract people’s attention making them buy the magazine. The research I did helped me pick the right colour schemes and layout because I created a questionnaire aimed at 16-20 year olds and asked for their preferences in a magazine type.
My products uses forms of real media products well, as it follows the same codes and conventions. The layout of my front page is different to magazines which I looked at, this is because I wanted to make my magazine different and make it stand out more. The background image is the main subject, its central with the band name above the image it is large and bold. The title of the magazine is plaved at the top and large so it stands out, many magazines do this to show their name off and so people can relate to it, with each issue. The colour plate is multicolour to make it stand out and look busier as there is not a lot of text on the page. I used a black font to create contrast with the multicolour background; this makes it easier to read. My media product does challenges forms of traditional music magazine by being creative, with using a different style and colour to attract the reading.
The social group represented by my media product would be young rebellious males, interested in there music. The social group is represented with new London DJs which focuses on them in the front cover and double page spread. The ‘DJs’ are dressed in cloths for what the readers may wear, so that they can relate to them. The title of the magazine “TRASHCO” sounds rebellious and different to other magazines out there, it represents this social group by having a laid back feel but with a twist. The header across the bottom on the magazine “Festival Issue” appeals to my social group that are intrested in music festivals and want to know more about them.
I researched into different magazine distributors to see which one would be most likely to publish and distribute my magazine. Worldwide Magazine Distribution Ltd (WWMD) distributes products similar to mine, these include NME and Q. I think that WWMD would distribute my product because they can easily dispatch my magazine, with it currently distributing to 8,000 stores in the UK and can also ship all over the world. Another up side is that WWMD distributes all the BBC magazines including Radio times. So they could cover every target audience and every genre of magazine. In order for my product to be a success, I will need a good distributor to help promote and sell my magazine, I believe that WWMD can do this.
When constructing my magazine I found the edublogs site very frustrating with little disk space and constantly not fully working. As I had already used Photoshop for m preliminary task, I found it much less difficult to use it second time round. I knew how to upload my pictures, add in the text and enhance my images. When creating my music magazine I was always improving how I enhance my images by adjusting their lighting and colour. I think that Photoshop my magazine more realist and professional. Also as I am not a arty person Photoshop enabled my to be much more creative without having to draw anything myself. The blog itself is a I thought was a bad idea with the lack of disk place and the site being down and slow.
Since my Preliminary task I have improved my front page and contents page very notably the layout of my magazine as a whole has changed, with contents in a much formal way, a much more traditional style. I also made sure the same colour though out the double page and contents, so they could relate.
The target audience that I have chosen will understand the language I have used and punch lines. If I were to do this magazine again I would make sure that the magazine front cover had more information on it i.e. more information about other bands. Also make sure the colour scheme was the same of all pages of the magazine i.e. red, yellow and black.
